While digging through the Euro NCAP archives, I noticed that they give the VIN of the car used for crash testing. I wonder what it says if you run it through Autocheck or a similar service?
Like for example, WBADD11000BN64341.

I would bet that they wouldn’t show up as the cars were never sold, never carried any insurance, and never received any dealership services. I think that is the three main areas where Autocheck and the rest get the bulk of their data.

I just tried. It does not show as a valid VIN.

You can check the vins at this yard. It’s where all of the iihs cars end up. All of them are bought either new or secondhand from local dealerships so there should be something on them.

According to my brief research, that VIN belongs to a 1998-1999 BMW 520i in Biarritz Blue Metallic with grey cloth seats. It has the option of automatic climate control. It’s also a manual.

I once had a shady used car dealer come in to buy parts for a car they had bought at CoPart to send to a body shop they used..... a car that had been crashed by the IIHS or NHTSB.
The guy was really slimy and kept saying how the parts NEEDED TO FIX THE CAR were “too expensive” and he’d only order about 20% of what he asked for.
I hope the poor buyer checked to see how salvage the title was, and how shoddy the repair job I’m sure was.
